Saint Ivan Island

In addition to walking around the outstanding historical monuments of Sozopol, you can enrich your vacation in Sozopol with a tour among the natural beauties of the area, such as the island of Saint Ivan, located about 2 kilometers north of the old town of Sozopol. The island is the largest located in the Black Sea Bulgarian territorial waters and there is a sonar lighthouse located on it, which emits sound signals together with the Cape Emine lighthouse to indicate the path of passing ships and vessels through the waters of the Gulf of Burgas. A unique phenomenon can be seen right here, but under the water of the island. Known as the Stone Forest, this phenomenon is not the only thing you will remember the island with. Here you can enjoy the beauty of the rocky shore cut by fjords and the caves formed in the shore.
About 20 kilometers south of Sozopol, you will find the mouth of the Ropotamo River, around which you will have the opportunity to admire the nature of the 2 national reserves Velov vir and Vodna lilia.
