Located only 35 kilometers from Burgas, Sozopol is located in an ecologically clean area of the Burgas Bay on 2 picturesquely sculpted islands, uniquely combining the modern life of modern Sozopol, the hotels and the rich history of the area.<\/p>

The old town of Sozopol reveals many artifacts and traces of the ancient history of the area. Already in 610 BC, this place was a Hellenic colony of the \u201cpolis\u201d type and was inhabited by Miletus Greeks, among whom the area was called Apollonia Pontica. The area developed as a port and trading center for many years in the past and maintained regular connections with the Golthem trade centers of the time such as Athens, Miletus, Corinth, Pontia, the islands of Rhodes, Lesvos and many other major and famous centers of trade in ancient times. The commercial influence in Thrace was based on an alliance with the Edirne rulers that arose around the 5th century BC. As a tribute to these historical facts and the long history of the city, an anchor can be seen in the emblem of the city, which was also an invariable sign minted on the coins minted and minted in Apollonia since the end of the 6th century BC. Along with the commercial importance of the city and the enrichment of its inhabitants, it has also developed as a great center of art, from where it comes and one later has the city, Apollonia Magna, which in translation will mean the Great Apollonia. In 72 BC, the city was looted and conquered by the Romans, and the city wall was destroyed. When in the 4th century the city again entered a period of growth, it became known by the name Sozopolis, translated as the city of salvation. From this ancient name comes the current name of Sozopol. Only before 812, during the reign of Khan Krum, Sozopol was included in the territory of the Bulgarian state that existed at that time. <\/p>

Numerous churches and ancient houses have been preserved to this day from the 18th-19th century period, which can be viewed by tourists and guests of Sozopol. They create a unique architectural appearance of the city and impress with their ancient authentic icons, wood carvings and their exquisite iconostasis, speaking of the exceptional efforts of the artists and icon painters in the past.
